When your child has a neurological disorder, finding a pediatric specialist is an important part of getting the care your child needs. At Children's National, more than 30 pediatric neurologists — part of the largest pediatric neuroscience team in the country — offer their vast experience to patients and families. The neurologists are in the Divisions of Neurology, Epilepsy, Neurophysiology, and Critical Care Neurology, Neuro-Oncology, and the Neurofibromatosis Institute.
The neurology division’s team includes neurologists, specially trained nurse practitioners, dedicated neurology nurses, and social workers. To offer a multidisciplinary, fully integrated approach to care, the division consults on the best treatment for your child in collaboration with physicians from the more than 40 pediatric specialties — individualized treatment for your child.

The division sees about 2,500 patients each year through our Inpatient Consult Program. Inpatient neurologic care addresses a variety of conditions that require hospitalization, including trauma, tumors, epilepsy, and inflammation (such as meningitis).Outpatient care covers neurologic evaluations, assessments, and related treatments. You can access neurologic outpatient care at Children’s National Health System, and Children’s National's facilities in Rockville, Frederick, Laurel, and Annapolis, Md., and in Fairfax and Woodbridge, Va. Children’s National also serves patients and families throughout the region by coordinating inpatient and outpatient clinical neurologic care for several area hospitals, including INOVA Fairfax Hospital and Holy Cross Hospital.

A Children’s National Health System study, in collaboration with research groups at the University of California, San Francisco and University of California, Santa Cruz, has found unexpected flexibility in the rules governing neuronal circuit formation in the brain.
Our team performs electroencephalogram (EEG) and Evoked Potentials and EMG/Nerve Conduction studies for patients with neurological disorders affecting the brain and spinal cord, and muscles.
