Leadership Letter

Children's National is recognized around the world as a leader in research and clinical care.
We also are extremely proud to be recognized in our own community as a strong ally and pediatric health care resource to the friends and families who live and work in and around the Washington, DC region.

We believe in making creative connections with people and organizations who share our goals and values, and we never forget who we are caring for - the community's children. In this issue of the FY 11 Children's National Community Benefit Report, we are excited to share a few stories about our innovative initiatives to engage with the community and improve the lives and health of thousands of kids.

Growing Healthy Kids highlights Children's National's efforts to nurture and support children and families, building infrastructure to provide care, educating them about healthy decisions, and promoting ways to make early diagnoses that can save lives.

Here you will find narratives, photos, and videos about the many ways Children's National works to benefit our community. Programs featured in the report include the work of an oral health coalition dedicated to improving access to dental health services; efforts to advance preventive dental services utilizing fluoride varnish; an initiative to screen newborns for congenital heart disease, and; an innovative community health education program that helps families understand when to use the emergency department and how to connect with a primary care pediatrician. This is just a sample of the amazing work happening at Children's National. Please join me in celebrating our community partnerships, and the dedicated staff who work so hard for our kids.
