Jayla's Story: Parent's Letter Project Premature birth- Jayla’s mom

I never had any health problems but in all three of my pregnancies I developed pre-eclampsia which leads to very high blood pressure. My now 18-year-old son was four pounds, my 15-year-old daughter was the smallest at two pounds 12 ounces and my last daughter who is five was a little over three pounds. The trips to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) were hard but it was inspiring to see the little babies fighting to live. They are so strong even though their bodies look weak.

My children are doing incredible now, very smart, honor roll students, with minor health problems such as colds, but overall they are beautiful inside and out. Look forward to those moments when you bring your child home and can begin planning for the future and all the fun events that you take on as a parent. There were so many support groups and other parents that I connected with along the way. Stay strong and stay encouraged.

Sincerely,

Jayla’s mom, Johnae
