- Meet Roslyn Polk, MS, BSN, RN, School Nurse, Children’s School Services - May 9, 2012Roslyn Polk, MS, BSN, RN, has no trouble keeping busy. As one of the Registered Nurses in Children’s School Services, School Health Nursing Program, Polk serves as the School Nurse at Janney Elementary School in Washington, DC. Her health suite is a hive of activity. Within the white walls papered with crayon-drawn pictures from grateful children, Polk manages a steady stream of students, parents, faculty, and paperwork all on her own. This is the multifaceted and autonomous nature of school nursing, and Polk navigates it with kind words and calm confidence.

Karen O’Connell, MD, was nominated for the Patient and Family Advisory Council’s (PFAC) Excellence in Family-Centered Care Award for her project, “Family Presence During Trauma Resuscitation.” The PFAC award was established to recognize and honor individuals, medical units, and teams at Children’s National Medical Center who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to delivering family-centered care.

National Healthcare Volunteer Week at Children’s National Medical Center
Children’s National Medical Center’s volunteers have played a vital role in caring for and comforting our patients since we opened our doors in 1870. Children’s National volunteers are passionate about doing what’s best for our kids and consistently put our patients and their families before themselves. Healthcare Volunteer Week is our chance to recognize these dedicated individuals who touch the lives of our patients and their families on a daily basis.
