All US LCME accredited AAMC member schools and many of the COCA schools, with rising fourth-year classes are VSAS home schools. Our VSAS application is available on April 1 – Click the link to view the catalog and calendar on GW's Website. If you have any questions about our electives please contact the Pediatric Program Coordinator.

- Payment must be received no later than the Monday before the electives start date
- You will not be allowed to rotate after that day
The academic year begins the first full week July and usually after the July 4. All applications are reviewed to determine your eligibility, the desired elective(s) and the requested rotation time frame(s). We are unable to officially accept and enroll students until the GWU registration is completed which occurs around mid-May. Your application will be kept in queue until then. You will be notified if we are unable to accommodate your request. We would love to discuss possible options so that you can participate in our program.
If you are requesting more than one elective placement, please note that in your application when you identify your elective and date(s). We require that you post a current BLS or ACLS card in the supplemental document section of VSAS. Background Checks are recommended but not required at this time. We will process all applications for July and August first and then work our way through the remaining requests. We are able to accommodate a few “off schedule” requests but it is very difficult for most electives.
Complete acceptance criterion is discussed on the GWUMS website, where you will also find the electives course descriptions and the academic year calendar.
The goal of the Minority Senior Scholarship Program at Children’s National is to make academic pediatrics accessible to students from underrepresented minorities (URM). Annually, eight senior medical students will be selected to participate in one-month rotations between July and October.
We hope that you choose to do your elective at Children's National and we look forward to hearing from you soon. Contact us with any questions.
