East Inpatient Tower

Our Michigan Avenue location has undergone changes so we can continue to provide our patients and their families with world-class care.

Children’s is proud to announce the opening of new East Inpatient Tower.
East Inpatient Tower

Children’s is proud to announce the opening of new East Inpatient Tower. The new Patient Tower is part of our continuing commitment in transforming children's health. The new Patient Tower officially opened November 18, 2007. The multimillion-dollar project  enhances the expert, family-centered care at Children’s.

The tower has three floors of 140 new private patient rooms with private bathrooms and Internet access in each room. The new addition was designed with input from families, patients and staff members. The wing is designed to enhance family-centered care. The expansion includes a renovated surgery area, new Pediatric Intensive Care, Cardiac Intensive Care and Heart, Lung, Kidney, Neurosciences, Bone Marrow and Hematology/Oncology inpatient units.

Planning for the expansion began about seven years ago and the construction of structural steel began in October 2003. Federal Appropriations and philanthropic support have provided funding for the project. Now that we have moved to the new tower, the existing main hospital is being utilized primarily for outpatient clinics and other support services.
