Transportation and Parking

Directions to the main hospital and to all of Children’s facilities are available. Convenient parking is available in the Children's Hospital garage.

Parking
There is underground parking available to patients and visitors at the main Children’s Hospital location. For off-site locations, free parking is available. Call for more details.

Discount Parking Stickers
Discount parking stickers are available to parents and patients at the main hospital location. Stickers can be purchased at the Cashier’s Office in the Main Atrium from 10 am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday, or in the Parking Office (1 st Floor, East Inpatient Tower) from 7 am – 6 pm, Monday – Friday.

Valet Parking
Complimentary valet parking is available between 7am – 5 pm, Monday – Friday. Please be advised that while normal parking rates do apply, there is no additional charge to valet. Your car may be picked up from the valet kiosk, located on the P1 level of the parking garage between the hours of 7 am – 5 pm.

If you intend to pick up your car after 5 pm, please take your valet slip to the Parking Garage Cashier, located on parking level P1 (near Valet Kiosk) to retrieve your keys. After 1:30 am, pick up your keys from the Security Office, located near the Emergency Room, 1st Floor, East Inpatient Tower.

Parking rates in Children’s garage are as follows:

0-30 minutes……………….... $1.50
31 minutes – 1 hour………….$2.50
1-2 hours……………………... $3.50
2-3 hours……………………... $4.50
3-4 hours…………………....…$6.00
4-12 hours………………….….$7.00
Daily Maximum………….....… $7.00

(Note: No additional charge to valet but normal parking rates will apply)

Public Transportation
All services listed can be arranged by contacting the concierge manager (x2220) or by visiting the Welcome Desk, located in the 1 st Floor Main Atrium (x3000) (Times are subject to change without notice; please see the Welcome Desk for the most current information ).

Children’s Metro Shuttle Service (Free)

  • Runs from the hospital to the Brookland Metro station (on the red line).
  • Operates Monday – Friday. The shuttle does not operate on weekends or holidays.
  • Runs on a frequent schedule from 6:15 am (departing Metro) to 7:05 pm (departing the hospital).
  • The shuttle picks up passengers from the hospital at the visitor/patient drop-off area on Floor P1.

Public Transportation to Children’s

  • Metrorail – The nearest Metro stop is Brookland/CUA (Catholic University) on the Red Line (see Children’s Metro Shuttle Service).
  • Metrobus -The H-1, H-2 and H-4 buses stop in front of the hospital.

About the Area’s Public Transportation System

  • Metro
    Five rail lines and an extensive bus system connect the District with Maryland and Virginia. Train lines are named for colors: red, yellow, blue, green and orange.

  • MARC Trains
    This service is three commuter transit lines that operate between DC, Maryland and West Virginia. The train lines are: Brunswick, Camden and Penn. Hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 5 am – 12 am.

  • Taxi Services
    If you need a taxi, go to the Welcome Desk in the Main Atrium to use the phone with a direct line to taxi companies in the area. You must remain in the Main Atrium once a taxi company has been called to receive your taxi number.

Disabled/Special Needs Travelers
For people with disabilities, special parking is available on the first floor parking level (P-1). You may call for an elevator using the special phone near the P-1 elevator. You may also use the phone to call for assistance if you need a wheelchair or help moving someone in.
