Since 1870, Children’s National Medical Center has provided hope to sick children and their families throughout the Washington, DC, region. The caliber of medical expertise we offer is often unparalleled, and so, families from more than 30 countries around the world seek care for their children here.
We are an internationally recognized leader in pediatric health. Children’s National not only provides world-class clinical care, but is an international leader in research, with several floors of onsite research facilities. Research at Children's which includes Children's Research Institute (CRI) and the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation allows us to translation research findings directly to better clinical care.

- Our cardiac surgery program performs more than 500 surgeries per year under the leadership of one of the world’s most respected and innovative cardiac surgeons, Richard Jonas, MD, and more than 500 cardiac catheterizations led by cardiac interventionalist Michael Slack, MD.
- The neurology and neurosurgery teams are an international referral center for pediatric brain tumors and epilepsy disorders. One out of every 10 pediatric brain tumors in the U. S. is evaluated by these teams, lead by Roger Packer, MD, and Robert Keating, MD.
- Children’s National has a world-class team of pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and support staff, who performed 15,000 surgeries last year.
- The orthopaedics, hematology, oncology, ophthalmology, bone marrow transplant and plastic surgery divisions are all internationally recognized for clinical excellence.

Located in the heart of the nation's capital, Children’s National has the unique advantage of resources, such as access to embassies and three major airports, to welcome international travelers. We contact embassies, provide interpreters, and coordinate all medical appointments to simplify your stay.
Children’s National around the world
The International Program at Children's National now have two offices to assist families overseas - one in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the other in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Children’s National Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center recently opened a medical office in the United Arab Emirates in the city of Abu Dhabi. The new office serves as a liaison office for Children’s National Medical Center and Washington Hospital Center in the Gulf Region. The office coordinates conferences and continuing medical education courses for medical staff and facilitates second opinion services via the internet and telemedicine, bringing the expertise offered at the two Washington, DC-based hospitals to the citizens of the UAE and other Gulf countries. State of the art telemedicine technology allows doctors in Washington DC to share information with more than 100 partnership sites in 14 countries including Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar. Children’s National and Zayed Giving opened a specialized Children’s National pediatric mobile health clinic on May 26, 2008 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The mobile clinic, stationed next to the Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi, provides medical treatment, educational programs, and screening services for children and their families. Through its partnership with Zayed Giving, Children’s National will provide dedicated pediatric pediatricians to the UAE for the duration of one year for this health campaign.
