Biography
Laurel Blakemore, MD, is the division chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Children’s National Medical Center with an expertise in pediatric spine surgery. She specializes in treating children with scoliosis and spinal deformities, as well as adolescent sports medicine and pediatric trauma.

Dr. Blakemore has served on many national committees for the Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. She was selected as an AAOS Leadership Fellow in 2004 and recently hosted the SRS International Travelling Fellows. She has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and has served as a visiting professor and national course faculty on several occasions. She has participated in the Isola Study Group and the Spinal Deformity Study Group.

Dr. Blakemore served as the team physician for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 2001 to 2004. In 2006 she was the team physician for the USA Under 18 gold medal team in Malmo, Sweden.

When she is not working, Dr. Blakemore is an avid equestrian show jumper and enjoys Celtic, blues, and mountain music.
