Biography
Dr. Wright provides strategic leadership for the organization’s advocacy mission, public policy positions and community partnership initiatives. Academically, he is a Professor and Vice Chairman in the Department of Pediatrics, as well a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Health Policy at the George Washington University Schools of Medicine and Public Health. He has been attending faculty in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Children’s National since 1993, and is founding director of the division’s Institute for Prehospital Pediatrics and Emergency Research. He provides state-level leadership as the EMS Medical Director for Pediatrics within the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, and national leadership as senior investigator and medical director of the federally-funded Emergency Medical Services for Children National Resource Center.

Dr. Wright’s major areas of scholarly interest and publication include emergency medical services for children, injury prevention and the needs of underserved communities. He has received recognition for his advocacy work throughout his career, including the Shining Star award from the Los Angeles-based Starlight Foundation for outstanding community service, and has been inducted into Delta Omega, the nation’s public health honor society. He has been previously named to several national advisory committees within the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Science, and presently serves as a federal appointee on the Food and Drug Administration’s Pediatric Advisory Committee, as well as on the inaugural National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council within the U.S. Department of Transportation. He has also assumed leadership in the American Academy of Pediatrics where he currently chairs the Academy’s subcommittee on Violence Prevention. Dr. Wright has delivered invited expert testimony before Congress on many occasions, has made numerous national media appearances and lectures widely to both professional and lay audiences.
