Biography
Kurt Newman, MD, is the Senior Vice President and Surgeon in Chief of the Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care Children’s National Medical Center and Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at George Washington University. He has been a surgeon at Children's since 1984.

Dr. Newman is a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and a past member of the Board of Governors of the American Pediatric Surgery Association. He has also served as chairman of the Surgery Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Newman is an expert in clinical resource management and has served as a consultant to several children's hospitals in conjunction with the Child Health Corporation of America. He is the author or co-author of more than 60 publications.
