Preventive Cardiology Program
The Preventive Cardiology Program is a multidisciplinary program at Children’s National Medical Center. Our team is made up of physicians, nurses, and nutritionists. Together we work to improve the diets and lifestyles of our patients to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular disease, such as stroke and heart attack, is the leading cause of death in adults. We know that the risk factors that lead to cardiovascular disease start in childhood. These risk factors include abnormal cholesterol, hypertension, increased weight, and other risky or adverse lifestyle choices (lack of exercise, tobacco use, etc).
The Preventive Team at Children’s National Medical Center is actively involved in research on abnormal cholesterol and obesity.
