Infectious Disease Research

Many Infectious Disease faculty members are co-appointed as investigators in Children's Research Institute, and perform basic science research related to viral pathogenesis (including HIV, Cytomegalovirus, and myocarditic Reoviruses), identification of novel antiviral therapies, and the study of the effect of cancer and its treatment on the immune system. Epidemiology faculty basic science research focuses on molecular characterization and mechanisms of hospital-acquired infections, including methicillin-resistant staph aureus and resistant gram negative bacteria
