Transport Medicine
At Children’s National Medical Center the Division of Transport Medicine is ready to dispatch its resources to referring facilities at a moment’s notice. The team of pediatric and neonatal specialists, led by Bruce L. Klein, MD, Billie L. Short, MD, and Jennifer Schuette, MD, ensures that critical treatment begins before a patient even comes on board.
Children’s Division of Transport Medicine is a unique resource.
Children’s is proud to be the only hospital in the region with a specialized air and ground transport system designed especially for newborn, infants, children, and adolescents. Patients not only receive care that’s tailored to their needs, but also the quality of care you would expect from one of the nation’s best pediatric hospitals.
Introducing SkyBear, our newest addition.
Thanks to SkyBear, our rapid helicopter transport service, response times are faster than ever. And because our dedicated flight and ground teams are ready to administer critical treatment on the go, no time is wasted giving patients the care they need. Children’s offers a staff of physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and EMTs that are specially trained in transport medicine for kids. Plus, all of the transport teams work with pediatric-sized equipment. This customization minimizes the risk to patients while in transit.
Our transport team handles more than transport.
Children’s transport team takes care of more than the ride to the hospital. Through Children’s Lifeline, we offer one point of contact to provide critical medical advice, transport logistics and hospital admission. Children’s team also follows-up with referring institutions. By making the transition seamless, the healthcare team can then focus on what’s really important, the patients’ health.
When you’re ready, we’re ready.
Children’s knows that when it comes to Emergency Medicine and Trauma Services or Critical Care Medicine, getting support where and when you need it is everything. The comprehensive transport team is ready to partner with physicians and parents to provide that support faster than ever. Call (800) 884-LIFE (5433) to arrange a transport 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Division of Transport Medicine is part of the Center for Hospital-Based Specialties.
