Pharmacy
The Division of Pharmacy consists of more than 150 professional, technical and auxiliary personnel who work with the patient’s care team to select the most appropriate individualized treatment plan according to desired therapeutic goals.
The Pharmacy team interprets, reviews and validates all medication orders and provides safe and efficient drug preparation and distribution for all patients at the hospital, the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders of Northern Virginia, and the Montgomery County Outpatient Center.
In addition, the Pharmacy team:
- Monitors therapeutic drugs.
- Provides nutrition consultations.
- Counsels patients and families on medications upon request.
- Identifies drug-related problems.
- Detects, reports and evaluates drug allergies and/or adverse drug reactions.
- Provides drug-use education and medication dosing guidelines.
- Participates in patient-care rounds with care teams when possible.

The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, The Pharmacy Nursing Committee and various unit-based and policy and procedure committees. The Division of Pharmacy also collaborates with the Division of Pharmacology.
The Pharmacy team monitors performance improvement measures using an internal quality scorecard and provides other divisions with vital medication error data reports, and supports investigators in more than 200 research protocols and clinical trials.
