The Sports Medicine Program team at Children's National Medical Center is committed to helping kids get back in the game — whether it’s on the field or on the playground.

Our comprehensive team includes pediatricians, orthopaedic surgeons, cardiologists, psychologists, and pulmonologists. We can help whether your child’s concern is a simple fracture or broken bone, or a more complex condition that requires a multidisciplinary team of specialists. Conditions we commonly care for include:
• Overuse injuries
• Sever's disease
• Osgood-Schlatter's disease
• Patellofemoral pain
•  Injury prevention
• Acute injuries
• Exercise-associated menstrual disturbances
• Osteoporosis
• Disordered eating
• Obesity

Our specialists also provide:
  • Surgical evaluation and management of sports injuries
  • Services for disabled children
  • Team physician services
  • Education for coaches, teachers, parents, and athletes
  • Management of medical issues related to sports participation including exercise-induced bronchospasm, asthma, and concussions
Proactive So Our Patients Can Stay Active
On behalf of our patients and for the benefit of all children, we endeavor to provide the best clinical care while also promoting programs and policies that encourage kids to be physically active. Our current initiatives include:
  • Participating in research on physical activity and children, including general injury prevention, and issues confronting female and disabled athletes
  • Promoting physical activity to prevent childhood obesity
  • Engaging in community outreach to educate parents, coaches and others on the benefits of physical activity for children and key sports medicine concerns
  • Advocating for policies and programs that promote safe participation in sports and fitness activities for all children
  • Educating pediatric residents and community pediatricians on key child and adolescent sports medicine concerns
