Child and Adolescent Protection Center Associated Programs Conditions & Treatments Meet Our Team Locations Resources for Families Resources for Healthcare Professionals Research Referral Guidelines Contact Information Request an Apppointment     Email This Page Print This Page           Child and Adolescent Protection Center The Freddie Mac Foundation Child and Adolescent Protection Center is the only medical center in the District of Columbia with a team of health professionals dedicated to victims of child abuse and their families, and one of the few hospitals in the country using a team approach to assessing and treating these victims. The District of Columbia continues to have twice the national rate of child abuse, making the Center’s work more important than ever. The staff treats more than 1,300 children annually from the District of Columbia and surrounding jurisdictions, and serves more than 1,800 children annually through its participation in the District of Columbia’s Multidisciplinary Team on Child Abuse. Services Offered The Center’s team of medical professionals provides comprehensive examinations (conducted by pediatricians and nurses who specialize in forensic issues), treatment of sexually transmitted diseases or injuries, and trauma counseling for child victims of all forms of maltreatment (provided by psychologists and clinical social workers who specialize in childhood trauma and abuse). The Center’s other services include: Advocacy for victims and families Psychological testing Juvenile offender counseling services Educational, psychological, developmental, and parent-child relationship assessments Individual and family therapy for victimized children Parenting education/therapy classes Case management Referral services for victims and their families The Center staff also provides consultation to colleagues inside and outside the hospital. Medical services are available by appointment or on an emergency basis, and forensic medical examinations for recent sexual abuse/assault are available after normal business hours. Multidisciplinary Teamwork The District of Columbia’s Multidisciplinary Team includes the Freddie Mac Foundation Child and Adolescent Protection Center as well as the following agencies: United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia (Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Unit and the Victim/Witness Assistance Unit) Office of the Attorney General (Child Protection Section and Juvenile Section) Metropolitan Police Department (Youth Investigations Branch and Special Victims Unit) Child and Family Services Agency (Child Protection Section) Safeshores, The DC Children’s Advocacy Center Back to Top
