Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
The Best Surgical Care for Your Child
The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Children’s National Medical Center offers elite pediatric surgical services to children across the nation and around the world. Each child’s case is addressed by a renowned team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and support staff. The team includes two plastic surgeons that practice exclusively in pediatrics, a unique strength of Children’s: only a dozen such plastic surgeons exist in the nation today.
Surgical Experience Counts
Each year Children’s National Medical Center treats more than 12,000 surgical cases, including many patients needing plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Parents can be confident that the healthcare professionals of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery team are working at the highest levels of competence and experience.
Surgery Tailored to Children’s Needs
The equipment and machines used in the operating room are designed for children. And because anesthesiology is one of the most worrisome parts of the surgical experience, Children’s skilled team of pediatric [anesthesiologists (link to Anesthesiology main page)] are outstanding, both clinically and in their relations with parents and children. Parents are encouraged to hold their child’s hand while anesthesia is administered, staying with the child until he is asleep. Few hospitals offer parents this kind of access. And Children’s is the only hospital in the area that guarantees anesthesia administered by a fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist, ensuring that each child receives the best care possible.

The most common conditions that receive plastic and reconstructive surgery at Children’s are:
