The Division of Psychiatry at Children’s National Medical Center is one of the oldest in the nation. Treating both children and adolescents, the division cares for patients through a variety of programs including: child and adolescent inpatient units, a day treatment program, outpatient services and emergency psychiatric services.
The outpatient service evaluates approximately 1,000 patients annually and reports over 5,000 visits each year. The inpatient unit includes a 12 bed child unit and a 14 bed adolescent unit.
The multidisciplinary staff of the division are trained to provide a variety of therapies including psychopharmacology, play therapy, behavior modification, family therapy, brief treatments, and group therapy.
The division is also actively involved in research and training. The division has a robust fellowship and post-doctoral fellowship program, and is currently home to a host of clinical trials and research programs on specific pediatric psychiatric conditions.
