Children’s National Medical Center’s Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine provides a full range of orthopaedic services for children and teens at state-of-the-art inpatient, outpatient and intensive care units, as well as our Regional Outpatient Centers located throughout the Metropolitan Washington area. Children’s team includes renowned orthopaedic surgeons as well as nurse practitioners and certified athletic trainers to provide the best care for children in the DC area and beyond. Families come from around the world for the skill and expertise of the pediatric orthopaedic surgeons at Children’s.
Our staff also puts a premium on communication – taking the time to meet with patients and their families, explaining diagnoses and procedures and answering questions. Because we know that relating to our patients is the first step in helping them get better.

Patients may be referred for diagnosis and treatment of any musculoskeletal condition, including broken bones, sports injuries, scoliosis, congenital disorders, and bone tumors. Children’s experienced staff can handle the most complex cases, including all types of scoliosis, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Marfan’s syndrome, neurofibromatosis, arthrogryposis, and osteogenesis imperfecta.
Casting and x-ray facilities are conveniently located on-site. We also offer specialty clinics staffed by nationally recognized doctors with vast expertise in specific types of pediatric orthopaedic conditions.
Acute injuries, such as fractures, sprains and strains
Common foot and leg problems, such as bowlegs and intoeing
Urgent orthopaedic conditions, such as bone infections and tumors
Scoliosis, including bracing and spine surgery
Sports-related injuries, as well as pre-participation examinations and promotion of safe exercise and sports programs
Orthopedic birth defects, such as clubfoot and hip dislocation
Congenital deformities of the hand, arm and shoulder
Limb amputations
Physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy and skeletal dysplasias, cared for in a team approach with other medical specialists
Our services also include orthopaedic pain management and promotion of bone health for children.
