Solid Tumor Program

Read Parent letters
The Solid Tumor Program at Children’s National Medical Center is composed of a team of pediatric oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, nurse practitioners, and laboratory scientists who specialize in treating children with solid tumors — all of the necessary specialists, all in one location.

The program provides advanced care for patients with the following conditions: Because our work revolves around children, we also understand the special needs of young patients and their families. The Patient and Family Support Program provides comprehensive mental health and psychosocial services and helpful resources for all patients treated in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, as well as parents and siblings.

Dedicated to Improving Patient Outcomes
We are committed to providing the most compassionate care for patients and seeking alternative therapies that minimize side effects and improve quality of life for our patients. Our team members established clinical standards in treating brain and renal tumors, and they are leaders in research on pediatric solid tumors.

Jeffrey Dome, MD, PhD, Division Chief of oncology, chairs the Renal Tumor Committee for the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and oversees clinical trials for Wilms tumor and other childhood kidney cancers in more than 200 children’s hospitals.

Children’s is the only hospital in the Washington, DC region, and one of only a handful in the country with access to Children’s Oncology Group Phase I Trials and Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium protocols. This means our patients have access to the most current therapies.

To learn more about enrolling your child in a research study or clinical trial, speak with your child’s doctor, nurse, or other care team members.
