Best Children’s Hospitals, US News and World Report

For the 2013-2014 U.S.News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals, Children’s National is nationally ranked as a best pediatric hospital in all 10 specialties that were included on the survey. Only center in the region with access to Children’s Oncology Group’s Phase I trials
With 8 divisions in our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, our specialists have contributed to increased cure rates for numerous childhood cancers. Our team is dedicated to expanding the number of diseases that can be cured, with our patients having access to more than 100 clinical trials.

Cardiology & Heart Surgery

Children’s National Heart Institute is one of only a few programs in the country with a specialized team of pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists who provide anesthesia and pain management for patients with congenital heart disease. Our team includes internationally known experts in pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, and fetal diagnosis.

Diabetes & Endocrinology

Largest endocrinology program in the mid-Atlantic region
Children’s pediatric endocrinologists and diabetologists have the expertise to recognize, diagnose, and treat complex conditions. Education is a core component to our care to help families manage chronic endocrine disorders for the best outcomes


Internationally recognized pediatric specialists
As the only hospital in the Washington, DC, area, devoted exclusively to caring for kids, our experts in gastroenterology and hepatology can help children with conditions that affect the liver and gastrointestinal systems. Children’s National has a nationally known Intestinal Rehabilitation Program.


The region’s most advanced neonatal intensive care unit
Manages the only level IIIC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in the immediate Washington, DC, area, the highest level designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics.


Dialysis and Therapy Services Exclusively for Children
Children’s National has the only stand-alone pediatric dialysis facility in the region with a dedicated dialysis program exclusively for children. The division's pediatric nephrologists, nurses, dieticians, social workers, and support staff, comprise a team with the expertise to treat complex renal (kidney) disorders.

Neurology & Neurosurgery

Part of the largest pediatric neuroscience team in the country
Our team of more than 30 pediatric neurologists provide inpatient and outpatient care to children throughout the region. Children's neurosurgery team is a regional, national, and international destination for newborns and children with disorders that require neurosurgical intervention, including brain tumors in all phases, functional, traumatic, and vascular disorders.


Leaders in the field and pioneers in the use of minimally invasive techniques
Children’s orthopaedic facilities and operating rooms are state-of-the-art and kid-friendly. Our team includes national experts in pediatric spine surgery and bone health, as well as sports medicine specialists who are specially trained in pediatrics.


Talented doctors and state-of-the-art facilities
Children’s National’s team has extensive experience in pediatric pulmonary medicine with special interests in congenital lung and airway anomalies. Our team includes experts in cystic fibrosis treatment and management, with research being a cornerstone of work to ensure the best possible outcomes. The diagnostic pulmonary laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility staffed by credentialed respiratory therapists who have advanced specialized training in pulmonary diagnostic testing


More than 100 years of combined experience
The Division of Urology at Children’s National Medical Center is the largest pediatric urology group in the Washington, DC, area. The team uses advanced technology, including robotics, to perform minimally invasive procedures that lessen pain for patients, reduce recovery time, and ease some of the stress for families
